Zoho WorkDrive plans and who they suit

Starter is the entry paid tier, aimed at teams with more modest shared-storage and file-upload needs. It can suit a small group that wants shared folders, desktop and mobile access, and file versioning without the extra administration features of the higher tiers. Zoho’s published paid plans start at three users; the pricing page directs customers looking for one or two paid users to contact sales. Zoho also offers a free individual-use plan.

Team increases the shared-storage and upload allowance. It adds features such as file recovery, collection links, access statistics and management of shared items, making it a better fit for teams with more files or more active collaboration. Business has the largest allowances and adds higher-level tools, including device management, data-loss-prevention policies, classification labels, audit trails and custom workflows. Our comparison shows the differences between the listed tiers without replacing Zoho’s own plan terms.

All three tiers include desktop and mobile apps, Zoho Office tools and file versioning. Choose based on the team’s shared capacity, upload needs and administration requirements—not just the storage total.

What stands out about Zoho WorkDrive

WorkDrive is managed SaaS: Zoho runs the service and infrastructure, while team members and administrators manage files, permissions, sharing and settings in the web app and Admin Console. There is no customer server to administer. Zoho documents AES-256 encryption at rest and SSL/TLS encryption in transit, along with two-factor authentication. It does not confirm zero-knowledge encryption; its documentation says encryption keys are managed through Zoho’s key-management service.

Zoho assigns an account to a regional data centre based on the country selected at signup, usually inferred from the user’s location. Listed regions include the US, Europe, India, Australia, Japan, Canada and Saudi Arabia. Zoho says EU service data is generally stored and processed in the EU, while authorised support access from India may occur. An account is tied to its assigned centre; Zoho offers a migration process if a customer relocates.

For syncing, the desktop Sync client supports Windows, macOS and Linux. TrueSync provides a virtual drive on Windows and macOS, with online-only files or selected offline files; mobile apps are available for Android and iOS. Sharing links can have passwords, expiry dates and download restrictions, and access can be tracked. Version history is available across plans, and deleted files can be restored from Trash; additional Admin Console recovery is available on eligible tiers. Zoho Writer, Sheet and Show support online editing and collaboration, but Zoho says WorkDrive editing is limited to its native formats.

Zoho describes distributed infrastructure with file copies on alternate servers for disaster recovery. That is not a stated customer-file backup schedule or retention commitment. Recovery depends on settings and plan, so WorkDrive versioning and Trash should not be treated as a separate customer-managed backup service.

Pricing, billing and renewals

Zoho offers monthly and yearly billing. Its published pricing presents the annual-billed per-user equivalent as lower than monthly billing, but no specific introductory-to-renewal price change is confirmed. A free trial is available without a credit card to start and is separate from ongoing paid billing. Subscriptions renew automatically unless renewal is switched off or the subscription is cancelled. Zoho describes the service as pay-as-you-go and allows upgrades, downgrades and cancellation without a contractual commitment.

How it compares with other online storage

For a provider that confirms data storage in Switzerland, Infomaniak states that kDrive data is stored and processed across its Swiss data centres. STRATO says its data centres are in Germany within the EU and operates its hosted storage services. If selecting a storage account’s primary region is important, Microsoft Azure lets customers choose a region, subject to service and redundancy availability. Compare these and other options in our online storage provider comparison.
