AI Audio API Platforms: Speech, Voice and Models
Use this page to compare multi-model API platforms that list audio-capable services, then choose a speech-to-text, text-to-speech or realtime voice model for your workload. The table is a starting point for platform access, not a complete catalogue of audio models.

Start with the audio task
Audio APIs cover several jobs that behave differently in production. Speech-to-text turns recordings into text, sometimes with timestamps and speaker labels. Text-to-speech creates spoken audio from written text. Realtime voice systems combine listening and speaking so a user can talk to an agent and interrupt it.
Choose the task before comparing platforms. For recorded meetings, you may need a transcript that identifies speakers and marks each word’s timing. For a narrated guide, voice quality and consistency across a long script matter more than a fast first response. A phone agent needs low end-to-end delay and reliable turn-taking, not merely a model with a quick internal response.
The filtered table lists AI/ML API, CometAPI, Novita AI, PiAPI, WaveSpeedAI and BeeSwitch. It shows model families, rather than naming specific audio models. Treat those family labels as a clue to explore, not proof that a particular transcription or voice model is available through a platform.
Speech-to-text: match the model to the recording
For batch transcription, check whether you need word-level timestamps, speaker diarization, language coverage or a specialist vocabulary. Diarization assigns stretches of speech to different speakers; it does not identify those people by name. If you are processing a recorded meeting, speaker labels can make the transcript easier to review and search.
ElevenLabs lists scribe_v2 for transcription in more than 90 languages, with word-level timestamps and diarization for up to 32 speakers. Its scribe_v2_medical is a batch option tuned for clinical audio, such as recorded consultations. Mistral’s Voxtral Mini Transcribe 3 and Voxtral Small Transcribe 3 also cover transcription and diarization. These model descriptions help you shortlist options, but they do not establish that a platform in the table carries them.
For live captions, a realtime transcription endpoint may return committed text while the speaker is still talking. ElevenLabs lists scribe_v2_realtime with a median of about 150 ms to a committed transcript. That is a maker-reported model figure, not the delay your user will experience: network time, buffering and your application all add latency. Test with recordings that resemble your real audio, including background noise, accents and overlapping speakers.
Text-to-speech: quality, language and control
For narration or an audiobook, listen to complete passages rather than judging a short sample. Long-form output can expose changes in pacing, pronunciation or voice character that are easy to miss in a single sentence. ElevenLabs describes eleven_v4 as its highest-quality, most expressive TTS model, with coverage in more than 90 languages. It describes eleven_multilingual_v2 as its most stable choice for long-form speech and lists 29 languages.
For short prompts in an English-only IVR or app, a faster model may be a better fit than a more expressive one. ElevenLabs lists eleven_flash_v2 for English with a median latency of about 135 ms. Its eleven_flash_v2_5 and eleven_v4_turbo models cover more than 30 and more than 90 languages respectively, and each has a reported median around 100 ms. These medians exclude application and network latency, so they are not directly comparable with another maker’s figures or a live test of your service.
Voice cloning can help keep a recognisable voice across generated content, but it requires consent and is governed by each maker’s policy. Before building it into a product, check the provider’s rules and design a process to confirm permission for the source voice. Also test pronunciation of names, numbers and specialist terms; language coverage alone does not guarantee the result suits your script.
Realtime voice agents need end-to-end testing
A voice agent has to listen, decide when the user has finished, respond, and cope when the user speaks over it. This makes interruption handling and turn-taking as important as speech quality. ElevenLabs lists eleven_realtime_v1_mini for fast conversation, turn-taking and interruptions, and eleven_realtime_v1_max for multi-step tasks with tool calling. Mistral lists Voxtral Mini Transcribe Realtime 3 for realtime agent use, alongside Voxtral TTS 3 for speech generation, voice cloning and streaming.
Do not choose an agent based on a model latency number alone. Measure the time from the end of a user’s utterance to the first audible response on your own network and application. Include the time needed for transcription, any tool call, response generation and audio playback. Test noisy connections and interruptions too; a quick response that talks over the user can feel worse than a slightly slower one that handles turn-taking well.
Keep music and sound generation separate
Music generation is a related audio use case, but it is not the same as transcription, speech output or voice agents. ElevenLabs lists music_v2_5, music_v2 and music_v1 alongside its speech models, which may suit a team that wants to explore both generated speech and music through one maker’s API. The filtered platform table does not identify which of its platforms carry those models, so verify model availability before planning a shared integration.
The table’s model-kind filters focus on categories such as Embeddings, 3D and Music rather than providing an Audio or Speech filter. That makes it especially useful to check the platform’s current model catalogue and endpoint documentation before you commit to a specific audio workflow.
Multi-model platform or direct API?
A multi-model platform can give you one account or API layer for trying models from different families. That can reduce the work involved in evaluating alternatives and make it easier to change models without setting up a separate billing relationship for every maker. It may also offer pay-as-you-go access or a flat monthly plan, depending on the platform’s listed terms. Those plan terms are not the same as the usage rate for transcribing or generating audio.
Buying directly from a model maker can make it simpler to follow that maker’s documentation, model updates and feature-specific controls. It is also the clearer route when you need a particular model or endpoint and have confirmed it is available directly. By contrast, an aggregator’s family list does not confirm that it supports the maker’s newest audio model, every feature, or the same request parameters. Check endpoint names, streaming support, limits and model versions before migrating code.
Our table filters for platforms that offer audio models, but its rows do not name the audio models themselves. Platform model counts include all kinds of models, not audio coverage, so a larger count is not evidence of a better speech catalogue. Across all 7 plans from 7 providers in our full AI comparison, listed monthly prices range from $35.00 to $35.00; those figures describe plans, not audio usage charges. We last synced those prices on 31 October 2026.
Compare costs using the right unit
Audio services may bill transcription by audio minute, generated speech by character or by output time, and realtime products using different measures. A headline rate is not comparable until you estimate the same workload in the same unit. For transcription, calculate the recorded minutes you process each month. For TTS, estimate the characters in your scripts or the final audio duration, then check which unit the model actually bills.
- Use a representative sample: include quiet and noisy recordings, short prompts and long passages.
- Measure the output you keep, not just the amount you submit. Retries, discarded generations and repeated calls can change your usage.
- Check whether streaming, diarization, voice cloning or tool use changes model availability or billing terms.
- Compare the platform plan separately from model usage, and confirm any minimum top-up or monthly commitment before you build around it.
When testing providers, use the same audio, script and response settings wherever possible. Keep a small evaluation set and record transcript quality, pronunciation, speaker labels and end-to-end response time. That gives you a useful comparison for your own application without treating a maker’s latency median as a universal benchmark.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best speech-to-text API?
There is no single best choice for every recording. For batch meetings, compare timestamp quality and speaker diarization; ElevenLabs scribe_v2 lists word-level timestamps and diarization for up to 32 speakers. For clinical recordings, scribe_v2_medical is tuned for that use. Test shortlisted models on your own audio and review errors before choosing.
Which text-to-speech model has the lowest latency?
ElevenLabs lists median latency of about 100 ms for eleven_flash_v2_5 and eleven_v4_turbo, and about 135 ms for its English-only eleven_flash_v2. These maker-reported medians exclude application and network time, so they do not show which model will respond fastest in your product. Benchmark complete requests on your own setup.
Can I clone a voice through an API?
Some APIs offer voice cloning; Mistral lists voice cloning among the capabilities of Voxtral TTS 3. Availability and requirements depend on the maker and the platform exposing the model. Get consent for the source voice, check the applicable policy, and confirm the platform supports the required endpoint before building the feature.
Are audio models available on multi-model platforms?
The filtered comparison lists platforms that offer audio models, but its rows identify model families rather than specific audio model names. Do not assume a platform carries ElevenLabs, Voxtral or another named model from a family label alone. Check its current catalogue and API documentation for the exact model and features you need.
What is diarization, and which models support it?
Diarization separates a recording into speaker-labelled segments; it does not tell you the speakers’ real identities. ElevenLabs lists diarization for scribe_v2, with support for up to 32 speakers, and Mistral lists it for the Voxtral Mini Transcribe 3 and Voxtral Small Transcribe 3 families. Test with overlapping speech and your expected number of speakers.
Is gpt-4o-transcribe still the recommended OpenAI transcription model?
No. OpenAI’s model page marks gpt-4o-transcribe as deprecated, so do not treat it as a current recommendation when starting a new integration. Tutorials or aggregator listings may still mention it. Check OpenAI’s current model documentation for supported transcription options before selecting a replacement.
