GreenGeeks VPS plans and who they suit

The Self-Managed range starts with GreenGeeks VPS 4GB, listing 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and 80 GB NVMe storage. GreenGeeks VPS 8GB, 16GB and 32GB increase resources in steps, reaching 16 vCPU, 32 GB RAM and 640 GB NVMe on the largest tier. Each lists unmetered transfer. The entry plan suits a small project or a first VPS; the larger options are positioned for apps, databases, containers and demanding workloads.

Managed VPS starts with GreenGeeks Managed VPS 4 GB, with 4 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and 75 GB storage. GreenGeeks Managed VPS 8 GB is aimed at busier stores and apps, while GreenGeeks Managed VPS 16 GB is intended for demanding applications and high-traffic platforms. These plans list 6 vCPU on both larger tiers. Choose managed if you want server-level maintenance and cPanel; choose self-managed if you want to configure the server yourself.

What stands out—and what to consider

Both lines provide root access, but the responsibilities differ. With Self-Managed VPS, you handle the operating system, updates, security patches and backups. GreenGeeks says a new self-managed server is not hardened for production use. It has no hosting control panel, although its dashboard provides server actions, a terminal, VNC console and firewall settings. The plans are aimed at Linux-command-line users and developers, including those using Docker.

Managed VPS includes cPanel/WHM on AlmaLinux. GreenGeeks includes OS updates, security patches, monitoring and server troubleshooting in its management scope, and advertises DDoS protection, intrusion detection and hardening. Root access is available through SSH keys. GreenGeeks does not manage website code, and its support scope has boundaries. Managed plan cards label storage as SSD, while the product page describes NVMe SSD arrays, so the exact plan-level storage type is unclear. Managed VPS also lists one dedicated IPv4 address per plan.

GreenGeeks lists Chicago, Montreal, Amsterdam and Singapore as hosting locations, across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. It is not clear whether every location is selectable for every plan. Backups need attention: GreenGeeks says VPS data is not backed up automatically. Managed customers can configure backups in cPanel; self-managed customers arrange their own. The two lines cannot be converted directly, so switching means ordering the other type, moving data and cancelling the existing service.

Prices, renewals and the money-back guarantee

Our comparison currently shows GreenGeeks VPS plans from $9.99. The Self-Managed listing shows an introductory offer followed by a higher renewal rate; the Managed VPS page lists monthly rates without a separate introductory and renewal schedule. GreenGeeks does not confirm how longer commitments affect VPS pricing or the current billing-period choices for each line. A 30-day money-back guarantee applies to VPS hosting, subject to exclusions, and does not apply to renewals. Plans renew automatically unless you disable auto-renewal through the dashboard at least five business days before renewal.

When another VPS provider may fit better

If you want a managed service that handles server maintenance and updates in the Netherlands, compare Cloud86 VPS. Flashcloud VPS is another managed option, with setup, patches, monitoring and maintenance included. For more confirmed location choices, AccuWebHosting VPS lists selectable regions across North America, Europe, Africa and Asia-Pacific. See our full VPS hosting comparison for more providers.
